Motorhome Medical £45
We provide medical assessments for individuals who own motorhomes weighing more than 3.5 tonnes and are required to hold an additional DVLA C1 category license, for only £45.

What’s a Motorhome Medical
DVLA has different license categories based on the weight, length, and number of passengers onboard. With a standard license, you can drive any vehicle weighing under 3.5 tonnes.
If you exceed this limit, you’ll need to apply for an additional license, such as the C1 category, which allows you to drive vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tonnes. This is the category most motorhome owners typically hold.
One of the requirements to hold this license entitlement is to undergo a medical assessment, known as the D4 Medical Examination, to ensure you are physically and mentally fit to operate such vehicles.
What Does a Motorhome Medical Include?
The DVLA has a standardised medical form called the D4 Form, which serves the basis of the assessment:

What is the Motorhome Medical Requirements?
The DVLA classifies drivers into Group 1 and Group 2 categories. Drivers of motorhomes weighing more than 3.5 tonnes fall under Group 2 and hence require stringent medical standards.Vision
Read car plates from 20 meters. No double or single-eye vision*
Blood Pressure
Should be below 180/100 mmhg, otherwise cannot operate the vehicle
Physical Strength
A good level of musculoskeletal (MSK) function is required to drive safely
Health Conditions
Should be well-controlled according to DVLA Driving Fitness Guidance.
Grandfather Rule: Exemption for single-eye motorhome drivers with licenses obtained before 1 January 1991, provided the condition was declared at the time.
Note: For those who earned their driving license before January 1997, the C1 entitlement was automatically included.
For more information on meeting medical requirements for Group 2 drivers, refer to the DVLA D4 Medical Examination Report booklet.

How often do you need a D4 medical assessment?
At the time of your initial application: A D4 medical assessment is required to obtain your C1 provisional license.
From age 45: A D4 assessment will be needed every 5 years until you turn 65.
From age 65 onward: Annual medical assessments will be required.
Please note that drivers with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or sleep apnoea, may need to undergo more frequent assessments—typically every 1 to 3 years
