Here, we address the most common questions regarding driver medical assessments, ensuring you have the necessary information to comply with health and safety regulations. Whether you’re a taxi driver, HGV operator, or any other type of driver, we’re here to help you understand what’s required for safe driving.

When providing identification, a combination of two of the following documents are accepted:
1- Driving License
2- Bank or Building Society Statements (We accept online banking App)
3- Birth Certificate
4- Marriage Certificate
5- Passport
6- Utility Bills (recently paid)
7- National Insurance Number Card
8- Payslip Letter from the Benefits Agency
9- Home Office Correspondence
By presenting a mix of these documents, you can adequately verify your identity. Ensure that the documents are up-to-date and clearly display your name and address for efficient processing.
Any doctor with full registration from the General Medical Council (GMC) and licensed to practice medicine in the UK is eligible to complete the DVLA D4 medical form. Typically, General Practitioners (GPs) who have full access to your medical records are the most suitable to carry out this assessment. However, due to the increasing pressure on GPs and the limited availability of appointments, there may be delays in processing your D4 form. To expedite the process, using a specialized service can be a more efficient and cheaper option.
A C1 license medical is a specific health examination, (known as a Group 2 Medical) required for individuals seeking to drive vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes in the UK. This license is typically associated with driving light trucks or larger vehicles such as ambulances and motorhomes.
The medical examination for both C1 and D1 DVLA license categories is essentially the same, as both are classified under Group 2 drivers. This categorization applies to drivers of larger vehicles that require a higher standard of medical fitness compared to Group 1 drivers.
The only difference is in the type of vehicle you are authorized to drive.
C1 License:
Required for drivers operating vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes such as ambulance and motorhomes.
D1 License:
Required for drivers of vehicles designed to carry more than 8 passengers up to a maximum of 16, including the driver.

- If you are booking a taxi medical appointment, a medical summary is required. All councils mandate that the examining doctor review at least a summary of the driver’s medical record. Some councils would require a Full medical record such as London and Sefton.
Please note, for a HGV medical, the medical summary is NOT required.
You can request a printed summary from your GP practice by asking the receptionist. This service is usually free and does not require a GP appointment. However, it may take a few hours to a few days to obtain, so please request it in advance.
If you have booked your appointment but have been unable to get your medical summary, please let us know with more than 24 hours’ notice, and we will happily reschedule your appointment at no extra cost.
